Anthony Rice (1900-1970)

"Anthony (Tony) Rice (1900 – 1970). Born in England, his family moved to Canada when Tony’s father retired from the military. He received his PhD in Geology in [1934]. Rice spent considerable time in B.C. conducting geological surveys often painting the landscapes. He was an artist of considerable talent and developed a rather distinctive style in oils. After he retired he painted the area surrounding Ottawa and the Gatineau were he had a great feeling for the rocks and trees of the countryside. Like so many gifted artists Rice had little interest in self-promotion, had he done so I have no doubt that he would have established a national reputation."
